The 2010 National Science Week Print E-mail
  
 As one of its strategies to promote Science & Technology, UNCST holds a National Science Week annually. On this note UNCST is pleased to inform you of the forthcoming 2010 National Science Week (NSW) which will be marked from 20th to 24th of September, 2010 in Gulu District.   The theme of the Week shall be, “Science, Technology and Innovation: Strategic Interventions for Prosperity for All”.  The NSW is intended to help the public understand the pivotal role of science and technology in the economic and social transformation of Uganda.  It is also a Week to reflect on scientific and technological achievements and assess overall progress towards strengthening Uganda’s science and technology capability.
The 2010  NSW will consist of a series of  events aimed at;
  • Helping students understand and appreciate careers in science and technology
  • Disseminating  research findings on key national development  issues
  • Recognizing scientific and technological excellence and outstanding achievements of Ugandan Scientists
  • Taking science to the general public.

 This Years National Science Week will comprise of the follwing activities;

Pre- Science Week activities
  1. Science, Technology and Innovation Case Studies Dissemination Workshop
  2. Open Day (Exhibition and Commissioning of Physics equipment acquired through MSI) at the Physics Department, Makerere University
National Science Week – Northern Uganda
  1. Science Walk and Launch of the 2010 NSW at Kaunda Grounds, Gulu
  2. STI Exhibition at Kaunda Grounds
  3. Young Scientists’ Innovation Competition at Gulu University
  4. Secondary Science Quiz at Sacred Heart Secondary School
  5. STI Policy Dialogue at Acholi Inn Gulu
  6. Closing Ceremony for the 2010 NSW, at Acholi Inn Gulu
National Science Week – events in other parts of the country
  1. International Conference on Curricular Connectedness in Science, Mathematics and Technology (SMT) at Kabale University.
  2. Café Scientifique and Commemoration of the African Scientific Revival Day at Uganda Museum.
  3. 6th Annual Scientific Conference/9th Matthew Lukwiya Memorial Lecture/18th Scientific Conference of the Uganda National Association of Community and Occupational Health at Kabira Club, Kampala.
