 Mandate, Mission & Vision
The UNCST Mandate is to develop and implement policies and strategies for integrating S&T into the national development policies; advise the Government on policy matters for promoting S&T; coordinating and guiding national research and development in Uganda.
The UNCST Vision: "A Prosperous Science and Technology Led Ugandan Society".
The UNCST mission Mission is: "to provide effective and innovative leadership in the development, promotion and application of science and technology and its integration in sustainable national development". Our Core Values are: - Commitment and hard work; - Integrity; - Distinction. UNCST Structure The Council (Governing Board), comprises of 32 eminent scientists appointed by the Minister responsible for Science and Technology (S&T) in Uganda. It is the supreme policy making organ and is responsible for implementing the UNCST functions.
The Executive Committee: Provides supports to the Council Secretariat in following up Council’s resolutions through regular interface with the Council Secretariat and other S&T stakeholders.
The Specialized Committees: Consist of various sciences such as; agricultural, industrial, engineering and technology, natural, physical, health, information, social, and humanity. These committees advise the Council on S&T policy matters in their respective sectors. There are other standing committees such as the HIV/AIDS Research Committee and the National Biosafety Committee that are set up by the Council to undertake specialized work and to provide technical advice in their respective fields of S&T.
Council Secretariat: Comprises the Executive Secretary and a team of technical and administrative support staff. The Council, through the Secretariat makes use of expert panels, taskforces, consultants and other contracted capacity to execute certain specialized assignments, as and when necessary. |
